This Die Technician position is based in Lithia Springs, GA

PURPOSE: This position is responsible for providing designs, building and repairing process tooling, gauges, jigs and fixtures that are used primarily to produce vinyl window parts for new systems and current production support. These tools designs will be produced with the use of MasterCAM and Autodesk Inventor from sample parts, sketches, part drawings, process drawings, QC control specification.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates conventional and CNC machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools, applying knowledge of tool and die design and construction, shop mathematics, metal properties, and layout, machining, and assembly procedures: Studies specifications, such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
     
  2. May lift, position and secure machined parts or assemblies on machine tools, stands, surface plates or worktables, using hoists vises, v-blocks, clamps or angel plates.
     
  3. May smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools, using scrapers, abrasives stones, files emery cloths or power grinder and other power tools.  
     
  4. Visualize and computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations.
     
  5. Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining.
     
  6. May connect wiring, pneumatics lines and hydraulic lines to install electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic components.
     
  7. May examine standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommend design modifications regarding construction and function of part.
     
  8. May develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draw or sketch designs of production tools with the use of a CAD system.
     
  9. May specialize in repair work and be designated Tool-And-Die Repairer.
     
  10. May set pyrometer controls of heat -treating furnace and feed or place parts, tools or assemblies into furnace to harden or draw down hardness of such components.
     
  11. Verify dimensions, alignments and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, depth gauges and dial indicators.  
     
  12. Conduct test runs with completed tools to ensure that parts meet QC and engineering specification; make adjustments as required.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATION AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • 4 to 5 year apprenticeship in a technical/Vocational high school, community or technical college
  • 5-10 experience
  • Strong knowledge of product development principles
  • The ability to working with a collaborative and cross functional team to design safe and production friendly tools to meet quality specifications
  • Strong ability to inspect and trouble shoot existing tooling to determine solutions for process improvements or bringing their operations back to the required engineering and QC specifications
  • Background in lean manufacturing principles with a focus on creating value/eliminating waste
  • Strong Mechanical Aptitude
  • Strong analytical and machine shop mathematical skills
